Cost Center Reports
Cost Center Reports shows where costs are being incurred, broken down by cost center for a single business entity at a time. Cost centers are grouped under the profit center each one rolls up to, so you can see both the detail of individual spending and how it aggregates upward.
For each cost center you see expenses grouped by type and a row total. Each profit center group closes with a subtotal, and a company total closes off the entity.
Every figure comes from posted accounting transactions, grouped by the General Ledger sub-category they were posted to. The report is read-only — nothing is created, edited, or deleted here.
Relationship to Profit Center Reports
Each profit center subtotal in this report equals the “Less: cost” figure shown for that same profit center in Profit Center Reports. The two reports are two views of the same posted costs: Profit Center Reports tells you the net contribution of a profit center, and this report tells you which cost centers beneath it drove the cost.
What you can use it for
- Analysing where costs are incurred across departments, functions, and facilities
- Comparing spending patterns between cost centers within the same profit center
- Investigating the cost side of a profit center’s result
- Tracing any expense figure back to the individual transactions behind it
Getting started
Opening the report
Go to Financial Management › Cost Center Reports in the sidebar. The page title and breadcrumb confirm where you are.
Access is permission-controlled. If you cannot see the report, or you get an access-denied message, your administrator can grant you access.
Selecting a business entity
The left-hand side panel lists every business entity that has at least one cost center defined against it, showing the entity name and code.
Only one entity is displayed at a time. Clicking an entity in the panel shows its cost center table and hides the others. A default entity is selected when you first open the report.
Above each table you’ll see the entity name along with its industry and currency. The currency shown determines the currency symbol used for every amount in that table, so figures are always presented in the entity’s own functional currency rather than converted.
Reading the table
How the table is organised
The table is grouped by profit center. Each group opens with a header row showing the profit center code and name, followed by the cost centers assigned to it, and closes with a subtotal row for the group.
Cost center rows
Each row is one cost center, showing its number, its name, and a badge indicating its type — Plant, Processing Unit, Maintenance, HR, Procurement, Warehouse, Admin, Finance, Legal, IT Support, Sales, and so on, as classified in the Cost Center master.
Expense columns
The expense columns are built from your actual transactions rather than from a fixed template. One column appears for each expense sub-category that has at least one posted transaction tagged to a cost center within the selected entity.
This means the columns differ from entity to entity. Sub-categories you may see include Manufacturing & Production, Office & Administration, Depreciation & Amortization, Other Operating Expense, Cost of Goods Sold, Selling & Distribution, and Interest Paid.
Each cell shows the total of posted transactions for that cost center within that sub-category. Where a cost center has nothing posted against a sub-category, the cell shows a dash rather than a zero.
Total
Total = the sum of all expense columns for that cost center
This is a static subtotal and isn’t clickable — drill down from the individual expense columns instead.
Profit center subtotals
After each group, a bold subtotal row sums every expense column and the Total column across all cost centers in that group. This is the figure that reconciles to Profit Center Reports.
Company total
The closing row of the table sums every column across all cost centers in the entity, giving you total spending for the business entity by expense type.
Drilling into transactions
Opening the detail
Click any populated expense amount to open the Transaction Detail page for that cost center and sub-category. Dashes are not clickable, and neither are the Total, subtotal, or company total figures.
What the detail page shows
The header identifies exactly what you’re looking at: a badge for the expense sub-category, the cost center number and name, and the business entity.
Two summary cards give you Total Amount and Transaction Count.
Below them, a table lists each contributing posted transaction:
- Date
- Transaction Number — links through to the source entry in Manual Journals
- GL Key — drawn from the General Ledger master
- GL Account
- Amount
A Total row closes the table, reconciling to the figure you clicked.
