Insights
Insights is where you turn your saved Reports into visual dashboards — combining multiple reports as widgets on a single canvas, so you can see several analytics views at a glance rather than opening reports one at a time.
Getting There
From Administrator → Analytics, select Insights to open the Insights List View.
Insights List View
What You’ll See
- Insights Table – Insight Name, Description, Folder, Created By, Created On, and Last Modified
- Folder & Favourites Navigation – filter by Recent, Created By Me, Shared With Me, All Folders, or Favourites
Top Controls
- New Insight and New Folder buttons
- Action Dropdown – bulk operations: Export, Delete, and Add To Favourite
- Search Bar
Creating a Folder
The New Folder popup just needs a Folder Name and optional Folder Description — Save creates it, Cancel closes without saving.
Building an Insight
Step 1: Create the Insight
Clicking New Insight opens a popup where you set:
- Insight Name and Insight Description
- Select Folder – Created by Me, Private Folder, or All Folder
Create opens the Insights Layout Editor; Cancel closes the popup without creating anything.
Step 2: Add Widgets
Each widget on an insight is built from an existing report. Clicking into a tile opens the Widget Selection Popup, with two tabs:
- All Reports – every report available in the system
- Folders – browse reports by Created By Me, Shared With Me, or Private Folders
Step 3: Configure the Widget
Once you’ve picked a report, you define how its data displays:
- Display Chart As – the chart type
- X-Axis and Y-Axis – field mappings
- X-Axis Range – Automatic or Custom
- A live Preview shows the chart and summary as you configure it
Add commits the widget to the insight; Cancel discards it.
Adding More Widgets
Once a tile is populated, the remaining tiles stay available — you can keep adding widgets to build out a fuller dashboard, or finish up whenever you’re ready.
Saving
- Save & Close – saves the insight and exits the editor
- Cancel – discards any unsaved changes
Viewing an Insight
Opening a saved insight shows it in a read-only view — this is by design, to keep the structure of a finished insight intact.
- The Insights Header shows the Insight Name
- The Visualization Area displays every configured widget — pie charts, other analytical widgets, all loaded in static mode showing only the saved configuration
- There’s no option to add, delete, or rearrange widgets from this view — if changes are needed, they’re made back in the editor
- Close returns you to the previous screen
A Few Rules Worth Knowing
- An insight must be saved to a folder before it can hold any widgets
- Every widget must be linked to a valid report — there’s no such thing as a widget without a data source
- Chart visualization requires both an X-axis and Y-axis mapping to be valid before it can render
- Deleting an insight is restricted to authorized roles
